- Complementary therapies such as TENS, meditation and relaxation
- Group-based pain management programs.
There is also employment support available, to help people return to work or find a new job.

The service runs clinics and group programs in various locations across Dorset.
Chronic, persistent pain affects us in so many ways, little and large: it takes away our ability to laugh and have fun, it stops us from concentrating and doing things which provide a sense of purpose or pleasure… it makes us physically less fit and able. Our bodies may feel unreliable, our visits to clinics may increase, we may take more medication, become dependent on others and start feeling depressed, frustrated and hopeless that life will ever be worth living again.
Well, that’s where the Dorset Pain Management Service comes in!
Our team is full of people who genuinely understand the colossal impact of chronic pain. We are committed to helping you work on pain management using our 4 Pillars model, hope you enjoy your new learning and equally, that you feel able to share ideas you’ve already found helpful so that others in the group can benefit from your experiences.
While it’s hard to accept that science hasn’t yet discovered that magic pill which can take pain away, the good news is that we understand quite a few of the ways in which the mind and body process physical and emotional pain. You will come across a variety of ideas and techniques which, like all new skills, require discipline and practice to amalgamate into your daily routine. The best news is that you won’t be doing this alone – we’re all here, walking the walk with you! We applaud your commitment to change and look forward to working with you to take back control of your life.
